ANZAR Checkerboard 2×2 Zellige Tile

ANZAR is a handcrafted checkerboard zellige tile in a 2×2 square format, made using traditional Moroccan methods where each piece is shaped, glazed, and finished by hand. This artisanal process gives every tile subtle variations in surface texture, glaze movement, and edge definition, creating an authentic and timeless appearance that cannot be replicated by machine-made tiles.

The composition combines a deep mineral blue with a soft natural white. The blue tone shows rich depth and gentle tonal shifts caused by the hand-applied glaze, while the white balances the pattern with warmth and clarity. The glossy finish enhances light reflection, allowing the surface to change character throughout the day depending on lighting conditions, while preserving the natural irregularities that define true zellige craftsmanship.

ANZAR is suitable for both residential and commercial projects. It can be installed on interior floors, including high-traffic areas such as kitchens, primary bathrooms, and entryways, as well as low-traffic spaces like guest bathrooms and bedrooms. It is also ideal for interior walls, including kitchen backsplashes and bathroom walls, where the checkerboard pattern adds rhythm and visual structure.

For exterior applications, this tile can be used on walls and on exterior floors in non-freeze climates. It is not recommended for exterior floors exposed to freeze or thaw conditions, such as areas subject to snow or ice. ANZAR is also suitable for shower walls and shower floors, including steam showers, as well as pools and spas, and is compatible with both saltwater and chlorine systems.

The tile may be used around fireplace surrounds, but it is not suitable for installation inside the firebox. It is fully compatible with radiant heating systems, making it a reliable option for heated floors when installed correctly.

As with all traditional zellige tiles, sealing is required to protect the glaze, enhance durability, and ensure long-term performance. Please refer to the installation guide for recommended sealers and proper installation practices.
